A good window simply lets the light pass through. Good music simply lets the soul breathe. May is a month rich in musical events. The SIMN 2010 is approaching (The International Week of New Music). Also, a few members of our Editorial Board, the Editor-in-Chief included, have their graduation concert. It would be lovely if both these events gathered a lot of public. You will find below all the necessary information related to the events.

As we count 55 years from George Enescu’s death, the current issue includes a book review – of Alain Cophignon’s exhaustive and outstanding monograph, entitled George Enescu and published by Romanian Cultural Institute, in 2009. Also, you will find a dialogue between Alain Cophignon and our talented and renowned musicologist, Despina Petecel Theodoru. We also present the next part of the interview with Romanian Composer Aurel Stroe, taken by Adrian Georgescu in 1974.

Not forgetting that we promised to accommodate as much as possible our readers’ requests, we include a few articles of high interest, written by the musicologists Ion Olteţeanu (on Hora Staccato, with the score available for download and with video illustrations) and Raul Passos (on the activity of the world-known composer Harry Crowl), and also by the philologists Sabina Draga (on the life and work of George Draga) and George Anca (on the song Waltzing Matilda, a literary analysis)

Finally, I would like to bring to your attention a notable book of essays, available for all our readers for free (should you wish to receive it, please provide your postal address by email).

In the middle of the cultural realm surrounding us and enriching our lives, I am thinking that our Journal is gaining new friends and authors day by day and issue by issue. To our greatest honor, we have become an important tool in promoting the values and principles, the events and the works of our musicians. We are being “used” and “read”. However, new friends are always welcome and our topic list is refreshed with the current issue. We do welcome you to take a look at it and to join our team, if you think you can contribute with an article on one of the topics there.

Talking about music is easy: we just share our experience and preferences. Understanding music, loving it, listening to it, and writing about it – these are more difficult. Perseverance, patience and endless love, these are the ideal qualities of a musician – and also of a journal dedicated to music. We do not earn “good money” by being contemporary musicians. At times, we don’t even gain the self-esteem or the attention of the others. What do we actually gain? Perhaps a new path towards our deepest, most intimate inner selves, where we may find a perfect consonance or a cluster chord on the low piano register. Whatever we may find, it is our truth: let us be loyal.
